Coastal & Marine – Ausgabe 1/2025

Energy Transition in the North Sea Region:

As Europe accelerates toward a greener future, the rise of offshore regenerative energies, particularly green hydrogen, signals a major shift in how we approach energy, the environment, and coastal development. The expansion and further development of green energies will reshape coastal landscapes, influence economies, and affect governance and community life.

At EUCC, we believe this energy transition must be inclusive, thoughtful, and firmly rooted in sustainability. Just as we have long championed integrated coastal zone management, we now recognise energy transition as a vital thread connecting environmental goals with local livelihoods, resilience, and longterm stewardship. Our commitment extends to empowering coastal and marine stakeholders through collaboration, knowledge exchange, and advocating for best practices that promote both ecological health and community wellbeing.

In this issue of Coastal & Marine, we explore the opportunities and challenges that the energy transition brings to the North Sea and its coastline. Showcasing forward-looking projects like H₂Mare, we explore how offshore energy innovation can be aligned with environmental stewardship and social acceptance. EUCC remains committed to empowering stakeholders, shaping sustainable policy, and ensuring that coastal regions are prepared to lead—and benefit from—Europe’s evolving energy transition.

We invite you to reflect on how local perspectives can—and should—shape Europe’s clean energy future. We hope you find this issue both insightful and inspiring!
