On 8 May 2025, EUCC-D and the municipality of Saulkrasti in Latvia hosted the workshop \u2018Forging Coastal Resilience & Sustainable Tourism\u2019 as part of the BEACH-SOS project<\/a>. The event, which addressed the pressing challenges of climate change in coastal regions used for tourism, was aimed at experts from the fields of tourism, science and administration, as well as the local population. <\/p>\n\n

The aim of the workshop was to jointly develop a viable and practical vision for future coastal management and sustainable tourism in Saulkrasti. A key element of this was the evaluation of concrete, measurable indicators for the effects of climate change on beaches. The indicators are intended to serve as tools for accurately recording climate change-related changes on local beaches and, based on this, developing effective and targeted adaptation measures. <\/p>\n\n

After reviewing the previous workshops in Saulkrasti and Germany, participants worked on developing practical indicators for measuring climate change on the beaches of Saulkrasti, including, for example, perceived temperature, UV radiation and visitor numbers. The indicators were evaluated and prioritised in terms of their suitability, applicability, cost-effectiveness and transferability.
